How We Farm!

Ferme Des Soeurs Inc is made up of a diverse landscape of annual vegetable gardens, perennial beds, animal pasture, beehives, forested woodlands, meadows, ravines, wetlands, and streams. This particular farmland throughout generations has seen many incarnations of informal organic agriculture, before being purchased and established in 2016 by Ferme Des Soeurs. Ferme Des Soeurs Inc approaches farming from an organic and biodynamic perspective: based on enlivening relationships between humans and the earth, while transforming the practice and culture of agriculture to renew the vitality of the earth, the integrity of our food, and the health and wholeness of our communities.

At Ferme Des Soeurs, we serve our greater community by growing vegetables, fruit, meat, and eggs. We sell through multiple venues, create our fermented foods line, and offer experiences and connections to the farm through various events, dinners, festivals, workshops, and artistic partnerships.

NUTRITION

Nutrition is supplied in a couple of ways. #1) is by creating a healthy environment for microorganisms within the soil. Healthy Soils thriving with Microriza can capture much of a crop’s nitrogen needs directly from the air.

#2) The use of Green Manures before high feeding crops such as potatoes is a great way of boosting Soil Nitrogen levels to achieve high yielding crops.

3) Incorporating Organic Fertilizers. Not all the required nutrients can be captured by mycorrhiza or are available from plowing in crops. Fortunately, there are some great suppliers of Organic Nutrients.

Ferme Des Soeurs Inc believe in maintaining a healthy planet to continue to provide an optimal growing environment for our fruits and vegetables. At Ferme Des Soeurs Inc we do our part to keep the earth healthy and clean. We work hard to build efficiencies whenever possible to constantly improve our business processes while staying environmentally aware. We are leaders in our field by diverting organic waste away from the landfill. Our organic waste is sent out to be processed as organic compost. All lighting inside our warehouse has been converted to LED lighting which produces less heat and uses less energy than conventional fluorescent tubes.
